If you see any type of raffle on Mercari it is a scam to get a few dollars out of you.   Here is how you easily spot this scam.

#1 - They want you to rate them before as soon as you make the purchase which removes the need for them to provide a tracking number.

Once you rate a seller, the seller is automatically paid, and the money is non refundable.

Luckily, now Mercari looks at the USPS website, and you can only rate a seller after the order is shown as delivered.

Buyers beware of Mercari sellers try to get your information.

Solicitations:

  • Soliciting users to an external website

  • Soliciting transactions to an external website

  • Soliciting users to provide personal information

  • Soliciting personal information

  • Soliciting other users to list Prohibited Items or engage in Prohibited Conduct

You will find some listings that have phone numbers which the seller wants you to call, or email addresses that they want you to email.

This can be a method to gather phone numbers and email address.

These practices are against Mercari policies, and should be reported.

Counterfeit products are a problem on all marketplaces, and Mercari is no exception.   This individual purchased some makeup on the site which she believes may be fake.

It is important to do research to learn how to spot fakes, and be sure to report them.   Mercari has been very good at eliminating sellers that are selling fake products.

How does Mercari protect Buyers?

Mercari's Buyer Protection Guarantee

We’ve got you covered:

When you purchase an item on Mercari, we hold payment to your seller until you confirm you’ve received your order and it is as described in the listing. You just need to rate your seller in order for payment to be released. If you don’t submit a Seller Rating within 3 days of receipt of the item, or if we can confirm delivery through the item’s tracking information, we’ll assume the transaction was successful and release payment to your seller. We reserve the right to rate transactions 3 days after confirmed delivery or awaiting post office pickup. Once we release payment, all sales are final and no refunds will be issued.

Your item isn’t what you expected?

If you receive an order that’s damaged or not as described in the listing, please let us know within 3 days of delivery by contacting us via the Help Center in the Side Menu. Please do not rate your seller, as doing so will release payment and complete the transaction. Once the transaction has been completed, all sales are final and no refunds will be issued.

Once we’ve approved your return, we’ll send you a prepaid shipping label, so you can return the item to your seller. We’ll issue a refund in the original form of payment or credit your Mercari account, depending on the situation. Please note that Mercari reserves the right to deny your return request.

Where’s your item?

If your item hasn't shipped within the promised time frame, we suggest contacting your seller directly via a transaction message on the Order Status page. Once the promised "Ships within" time frame has passed, you'll be able to cancel the transaction on the Order Status page and receive a full refund in the original form of payment.

What’s not covered?

Transactions taken off the app are strictly prohibited by Mercari’s Terms and Conditions. Our Buyer Protection Guarantee does not cover transactions performed outside of the Mercari app, and listings or profiles soliciting transactions outside of Mercari are subject to removal without notice.

Additionally, we do not support refunds or returns for Prohibited Items, a full list of which can be found by tapping the Side Menu > Help Center > Browse by Topic > Rules and Manners.

What is Mercari's return policy?

All sales are final on Mercari. However, we oversee every purchase made on the app.

Per Mercari's Buyer Protection Guarantee, a Buyer can request a return within 3 days of confirmed delivery if one or more of the following criteria are met:

1. The item is not as described in the listing.

2. The item is damaged or lost in transit.

3. The wrong item is received.

Please do not rate your seller, as this will complete the transaction and void your return request.

An item purchased on Mercari cannot be returned if it was accurately described in the listing or does not fit.

To initiate a return request, simply go to the Side Menu > Help Center > Return Request. You’ll also be asked to provide photos to support your claim. If you're not using the latest version of our app, you'll have to update it first.

If you've received your item and are eligible to return it, but the tracking hasn't updated to indicate that it's been delivered, please contact us via My Purchases in the Side Menu.

If the return is approved, we will provide the Buyer with a prepaid and addressed shipping label to return the item to the Seller.

We refund the Buyer in the original form of payment once the tracking confirms the item's "In Transit." For higher priced items, we refund the Buyer once the tracking confirms the item's been delivered back to the Seller.

We do not process return requests for Prohibited items. These requests will be denied, and the Buyer and/or Seller may be subject to further penalties.

To avoid excessive returns, we advise all Sellers to be as detailed as possible when creating listings. Buyers, please carefully review the listing description, item photos, Seller Rating, and ask the Seller any questions you may have about the item prior to purchase.

If the Seller or Buyer are not in good standing with Mercari, a return request may be denied.
